Mid-1800s Percussion Plains Rifle
Here we present an antique Buffalo Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. Its massive octagonal barrel is in .52 caliber, large enough to take large sized game such as bison or big bears and the like. It features a heavy barrel, double set triggers, and a half-length stock. The lock was made in the flintlock format before being updated to percussion. This one doesn’t have much in the way of markings remaining and it has been used hard, but it remains a magnificent relic from a bygone era in the United States and North America in general.
The overall condition is fair. The bore is dark with good rifling. The lightly engraved lock is loosely seated due to small cracks in the area. The action is not presently functional. The stock has seen lots of use. Here is your chance to own a rifle such as was used from the 1830s through the 70s on the plains for bison and bear. A neat piece!
