Description:
This is an original US model 1850 etched sword made by W.H. Horstmann. The sword is etched / engraved on each side, as well as etched "IRON PROOF" on the spine of the blade. The blade has light wear and a few areas of discoloration / oxidation but is excellent overall with no signs of sharpening. The scabbard says "The Weyers Academie Cadets of West Chester Pa to Major Cha's E. West. May 1865". We assume this means that the sword was a presentation piece to a Major of the Cadets. The scabbard has dark discoloration throughout but the brass fittings / loops are in excellent condition. No major dents or issues with the scabbard - just normal aging. Excellent original handle as well. All original and authentic. Blade is about 32.5 inches in total length. Overall length is about 38.25 inches (not including the scabbard).
