Description:
SOLD
Colt Model 1902 U.S. Military, one of the first batch of 300 guns purchased by the US military. Very unique

U. S. Army M 1902 with serrations on the rear of the slide, manufactured in early 1902. The left side of the slide is marked "BROWNING'S PATENT" / PAT'D APRIL 20, 1897"" followed by ""COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A."" with the Rampant Colt at the rear of the slide. The right side of the slide is marked with the caliber designation behind the ejector port and "" MODEL 1902"" ahead of the port. The right side of the frame is marked ""J.T.T."" above the trigger guard and ""R.A.C."" on the trigger guard. J.T.T. Of course stood for John T. Thompson who was an armorer inspector at the time and would later play a key role in developing the Thompson sub machine gun. The left side of the trigger guard where U.S. would have been stamped was filed down.. The front of the slide serrations have been altered and are now checkered. Standard fixed sights, checkered spur hammer and black checkered grips with ""COLT"" in a banner molded at the top and the Rampant Colt in the center. The bottom of the magazine is marked ""PAT'D SEPT 9 1884

Fine with approximately 40% original blue finish remaining overall. The top of the slide, bottom of the frame are worn to a grayish mottled patina and the grip straps are worn to a smooth silver patina. Scattered minor scratches and dings are also present on the metal surfaces. The grips are very good with light wear to the checkering and scattered minor scuffs and scrapes. All markings are clear and crisp, the action is fine.
