Description:
A most interesting original U.S Springfield Armory 1863 Civil War musket that was converted into a target rifle. with the change of barrel by Numrich Arms and then called Hopkins & Allen where a Marbles buck-horn rear sight was used, and a hooded front target sight. Comes with a tulip shaped ram-rod. The America walnut stock is original as are the remaining parts in this unusual gun. Lock works well and has a good nipple.The 34" round barrel has good rifling ad more recent corrosion in the grooves but not pitted-out, Caliber is .45 ball. Not encuntered very often this converted musket to target rifle has an oval stamp in the stock , just under the lock with a makers mark that may have done the conversion. Looks like the barrel may have been threaded to receive the tang plug, and top tang.. Overall an interesting, not encountered, Marriage of old and new parts.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
