Description:
This hand-made flintlock Kentucky Rifle is really a work of functional art.  Made by the well-known and very respected rifle builder Tom Hall sometime in the last few decades, this full-stock Kentucky Rifle is really spectacular and in excellent condition.  Tom Hall built custom Kentucky Rifles using historically accurate designs from rifles he handled or studied in books.  All of his rifles could pass for being the genuine article if they had the proper age on them.  Every single part of this particular rifle was hand-made and expertly fit to the gun, and all of the metal parts were left "in the white".  The lock is slender, beautiful, and elegantly simple, measuring 5.25" inches long and a little under 1" inch tall at it widest point.  The frizzen and pan have beautiful lines and angles on them, and the cock and jaws are perfectly sized to the lock plate.  Opposite the lock plate, the side plate thin and long to match the lock with a nicely executed thin line border and some simple engraving.  This Ky. rifle is fit with a nice set of adjustable double-set triggers, with a straight front trigger and nicely curved rear trigger.  The triggerguard is 9.75" inches long with beautiful bends and tapered areas that match the rifle perfectly.  The .45 caliber octagon barrel on this rifle is 42" inches long with a brass and silver front sight blade dovetailed into the barrel, and a nicely shaped rear sight also dovetailed in.  The hand-forged barrel is signed on the upper flat between the lock and rear sight "T Hall" in cursive.  The striped Curly Maple stock on this flintlock is really spectacular in every way.  The wood itself has beautiful striping in it from end to end, with an almost 3-D depth to it that plays with your eyes.  The carving and shaping of the stock is beautiful.  Everywhere you look there are small details that stand out.  The ramrod entry pipe and two forward pipes are nicely matched with a round to octagon to round design.  The forearm cap at the end of the stock is perfectly fit to the wood with tight seam and has a nice raked line design.  The wrist of the stock has sterling silver thumbpiece inlaid into the upper surface with the initials "CW" engraved on it, probably the original owner that commissioned the rifle from Tom Hall.  Just behind the upper tang the stock has a beautiful shell pattern carved into it.  The patchbox on this Kentucky rifle is really handsome.  Measuring 6 inches long from the buttplate and tapering from 3.25" inches wide at the base to a point, the patchbox is perfectly inlaid into the stock.  The seam between the metal and wood is so tight it is seamless for all intents and purposes.  The patchbox features simple yet elegant engraving, 7 handmade screws holding it on, and a 3" x1.25" spring-loaded door with spring-loaded catch at the rear.  Opposite the patchbox there is a beautifully carved cheekpiece that is 3.5" inches in length and some very nice scroll carving in the wood.  The buttplate on this rifle wraps over the top of the stock 2.5" inches with a 5 angled flats design.  The toe of the buttplate extends past the wood an 1/8th of an inch to prevent chipping and protect the wood from a drop.  If you have been looking for a beautiful Kentucky rifle for your collection or to decorate your home with, this vintage contemporary Tom Hall flintlock would be an excellent choice.  Very rarely do we see such excellent workmanship and artistic talent in Kentucky rifles made in the last few decades in this price range.  To learn a little more about Tom Hall check out this article from 2017: ://medium/claryestesphoto/number-42-3b40a6e02f04   ****As this rifle is a black powder weapon it can be shipped directly to your home.****
