Description:
Winchester 1873 Sporting Rifle .38-40 factory Special Order 28 inch Octagon Barrel with what appears to be a rapid taper to the muzzle. The serial number of this example is 323XXX placing date of manufacture in 1890. Overall condition is fine to excellent with the Barrel and Magazine tube have retained approx. 95+% of the original untouched factory rust blue. The bore is near perfect and will rate a 9.7 on a 1 to 10 scale(tiny bit of leading seen). Give it a good scrubbing with Hope's and it will be a 10!! The receiver has retained 95+% of its original factory finish with 90% fire blue remaining on the Loading Gate. You will find some rub marks on the dust covers rear guide. Lever and Hammer have case colors remaining in protected areas. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. The factory finish on this rifle will have scattered blemished through out as expected, easily remedied with denatured alcohol and 0000 steel wool. Wood to metal fit is perfect, no sanding, 95% of original factory varnish still present. This rifle Blue Books at $6400.00, very little work to bring its value to $8000.00. Nice investment quality 1873. Please phone Tommy at (760)-912-3761 or E-Mail all questions and concerns. $35.00 shipping
