Description:
This is a spectacular vintage Smith & Wesson Model 27-2 .357 Magnum revolver with the scarce and sought-after  3.5" inch factory barrel.  This N-frame beauty is serial number N117093, making it's date of manufacture 1973.  It comes with a correct vintage factory box(repro end-label), several period factory pamphlets, and an original factory warranty card.  The post-WW2 Smith & Wesson Model 27 was reintroduced in 1948 as S&W's flagship .357 Magnum revolver model.  Built on the square-butt N-frame, the double-action/single-action Model 27 was offered in a factory blue or nickel-plated finish and mulitple barrel lengths over the model's production run.  It featured a 6-shot fluted and counter-bored cylinder, a pinned barrel, a checkered top-strap and barrel rib, target sights with a micrometer-click adjustable rear sight, a shrouded ejector rod, checkered Walnut grips, and a color case-hardened hammer and trigger.  The 27 quickly proved to be a superb revolver, extremely well-made, reliable, and accurate.  It was a huge commercial success for S&W with target shooters, hunters, and hobbyists all over the U.S. and remains in production even now.  This particular Smith & Wesson Model 27-2 is an exceptional vintage piece with the factory gloss blue finish still bright and beautiful, rating 98% plus.  The only thing we can find to deduct 2% from the condition score is the faint drag-line around the cylinder.  This is most certainly a result of the action being worked by hand rather than actually being fired, as there is little to no evidence of the gun being carried or fired.  The front face of the cylinder is nearly spotless, and the forcing cone looks brand new.  All of the factory stampings are crisp and clear, and all of the serial numbered parts are matching including the grips.  The checkering on the top strap and sight rib is still sharp and pristine.  The factory case-colored hammer and trigger are beautiful, showing near 100% coverage and bright colors.  There is no fading or visible wear of the case colors, including on the face of the trigger.  The bore in the pinned 3.5" inch barrel is mirror-bright and pristine.  The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves, and there is zero pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible of any kind.  The 6 counter-bored chambers in the cylinder are equally as pristine and free from imperfections.  The original factory grips on this Smith are in beautiful shape and free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear.  The checkering is still crisp and clean on both sides, and the gold washed S&W medallions are in excellent condition.  Both grip panels match each other perfectly, and are expertly fit to the grip frame with no wiggle.  The action on this Model 27-2 has to be felt to truly be appreciated.  It is extremely smooth and slick, and perfectly "in time" no matter how fast or slow it is worked, double-action or single-action.  The cylinder locks up perfectly tight with zero felt play in it at full-lock, and the trigger breaks nicely with a light pull without any grit or slop, particularly in single-action operation.  They just don't make them like this anymore, despite all the advancements in machinery and tolerances.  The hand-fit and hand-tuned action of this Model 27 is truly perfection.  If you have been looking for an investment-quality Smith & Wesson to add to your collection, this scarce 1973-production 3.5" Model 27-2 would be a superb choice.  Very seldom do we see these guns with the 3.5" inch barrel in even average condition, much less as beautiful as this one.
