Description:
Antique French Military Modéle 1822 Single-Shot Percussion Pistol, Mfg’d. at the Chatellerault Arsenal, .69 cal., 8” round barrel with raised post front and notched barrel tang rear sights, is marked “Cde 17-Cav” and “1486” with numerous proofmarks at left breech, “G 1856” over “MI” at right, and “Mdle 1822” at top tang; flat lockplate with rounded rear section is marked “Mn. Impale de / Chatellerault” ahead of hammer; brass mountings include trigger guard with numerous marks (has iron floorplate), rounded buttcap; rear tang with numerous marks, and a steel lanyard ring, serpentine sideplate with front tang attached to nosecap, both with numerous marks; oil-stained European hardwood halfstock having raised aprons on both sides of lock, and marked “(star) / ST ETIENNE / 1486 / D” on left side.

Condition is fine.  All metal surfaces are polished bright, markings remain clear; stock is sound as very lightly sanded with a smooth satin finish.  Cupped, tulip-head steel ramrod is missing.  Action is strong and smooth.
