Description:
This Smith & Wesson Model 60-10 in .357 Magnum is an exceptionally clean and lightly-used example with the sought-after 3" inch barrel.  It was manufactured in 1998 and comes complete with it's original box and everything it left the factory with 22 years ago.  The S&W Model 60 was first introduced in 1965 as the stainless steel version of the "Chief's Special" in .38 Special.  Built on the firm's small "J" size frame, it proved to be an excellent weapon for both civilians and police alike.  It remained in production until 1996, at which point it was discontinued in favor of the Model 60 Chief's Special chambered in .357 Magnum which was introduced that same year.  The .357 Magnum version featured satin stainless steel construction on a round-butt J-frame, a 5-shot fluted cylinder, Uncle Mike's Combat Grips or wood grips, and 3 different barrel lengths of 2 & 1/8", 3", and 5" inches.  The S&W Model 60 Chiefs Special in .357 Magnum proved to be every bit as good as the prior .38 Special model but with the added ability to handle .357 Magnum cartridges.  It has been a very successful model for S&W and remains in production even today.  As mentioned earler, this particular example was made in 1998 and is a pre-lock gun.  It has been very lightly used and very well cared for.  The satin stainless steel is still clean and handsome, showing only some very minor handling/storage marks.  As you can see from the pictures, there are no bad spots or eyesores on this Smith.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and the cylinder shows only a very faint drag line.  The bore in the sought-after 3" inch barrel is minty and mirror-bright.  The rifling is still sharp and there are no visible imperfections whatsoever.  The 5 chambers in thew cylinder are also like-new and clean, free from any visible wear or defects.  The case colored hammer and trigger still show some nice bright colors and show no finish wear or fading.  The original factory Uncle Mike's combat grips are in excellent condition, free from any damage or wear.  The checkered black rubber finger-groove design has excellent ergonomics and should tame the recoil of this revolver substantially.  The action on this Model 60-10 is smooth, slick, and perfectly "in time" whether it is operated single or double action.  All of the controls on this Smith are in perfect working order including the adjustable rear sight.  The trigger in this Chief's Special breaks nicely with a light pull weight, particularly in single-action operation.  This 3" Model 60-10 would be an excellent addition to any Smith & Wesson collection or general firearms collection, and should continue to be an excellent long-term investment.
