This rifle features the iconic trapdoor breech block mechanism, with a hammer lock, and a half-length walnut stock. The rear sight is designed for longer range shooting, with adjustable elevation notches and various leaf options. The rifle appears to have started its life as a standard Model 1873 rifle, however was at some point cut down to a sporter-style rifle, with a hald-length stock, a single barrel band, as well as shortened barrel with a new front sight dovetail cut on top. The rifle closely resembles a Model 1873 Carbine, however the difference in barrel length a a few other small details differentiate it from that model The rifle is in godo working order with a tight, solid trap door mechanism, a fully functional lock assembly and hammer, with some signs of age and finish patina, as shown in the photos. A very small split can be seen behind the lock plate, on the stock, however it appears stable. Though there is evidence of old surface rust, there is very little evidence of deep pitting. The bore has some dark areas and light pitting, however much of the rifling is still visible and shiny. Please refer to the photos to further assess the condition of the rifle. A wonderful piece of history, perfect for US small arms enthusiasts! No FFL required. SOLD Manufacturer: US Springfield Model: 1873 Trapdoor Serial Number: 230240 Caliber Info: .45-70 Gov't |
