PENNSYLVANIA Long Rifle made in ALTOONA, PA!
Here we present an antique George Fay Full Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Fay is listed as being a gunsmith making late percussion, full stock Kentucky/Pennsylvania style rifles and some Bedford County types. He is shown to have worked in Bedford County, Cambria, and Altoona.
This rifle’s stout octagonal barrel is in .38 caliber, large enough to take medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. This rifle also features a double set trigger and a large brass patchbox.
The overall condition is good. The action functions. The adjustment screw for the double set triggers is absent. The bore is dark with clear rifling. “CHW” is hand engraved inside of the patchbox lid. The stock has been repaired along the fore end. Looks like very old repairs and still solid. “G<F” can be read on the top of the barrel. A rare opportunity to own this maker’s work!
