AUSTRIAN Musket Converted for American CIVIL WAR Dated [1]851
Large Bore .75 CAL Infantry Musket
Here we present an antique Austrian Musket, made circa 1851 and converted to percussion circa 1861. Many of these Austrian muskets were sold to both the Union and Confederacy during the American Civil War as both belligerents were desperate for small arms for their forces. This one had the lock stripped of obsolete parts, holes filled and ground flush. The barrel was cut out at the breech and given a bolster and percussion nipple. The hammer was replaced. There is still a date “[1]851” on the bottom of the lock as well as an Austrian Imperial Eagle at the tail. Other acceptance marks may be observed throughout. A neat piece of history applicable to both Austria and the War Between the States!
The overall condition is Good. The action is strong. The bore is in good shape. The stock shows handling and remains solid.
