Description:
Winchester Model 1876 Sporting Rifle .40-60wcf. with factory 28 inch Octagon Barrel. The serial number of this example is 5501X Placing date of manufacture in 1885. Overall condition is very good with the factory finish at about 10% the remainder a very nice even patina. The bore is above average for a .40/60. The rifling is all present and strong. Scattered pitting will be seen. The bore will rate a 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. The receiver is mostly patina with factory blue found in protected areas. The Brass follower is unpolished with a very pleasant mustard marbled patina. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. Wood to metal fit is perfect. I see a dark horizontal line in the grain, appears to be grain pattern or possibly a period repair done correctly.
