Description:
SOLD A New England Militia musket of 67 cal, 41 1/8" barrel with an about very good bore showing some scattered light pitting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces appear to have been aged and are now a dark plum-brown patina with some silvering along the edges of the barrel and even shallow pitting throughout. The lock is a quality manufacture by L&R and features a waterproof pan and bridled roller frizzen, and has been antiqued . A number of the screw heads show light slot wear and the barrel is unmarked. The arm features brass hardware including nosecap, dual ramrod thimbles, tailpipe, triggerguard, buttplate and lock screw escutcheons. The triggerguard features a simple pineapple finial along with some light embellishments and there is a crack through the buttplate heel. The stock appears to be of cherry or butternut and remains in good condition showing a few lengthy repaired cracks along the forend, some areas of dark finish masking old repairs around the lockplate and screws and some scattered light drying cracks mostly along the butt. The wrist has some coarse checkering with small stars within the diamonds that has softened slightly and the stock is slightly cast-on. The arm is sighted with a simple fine v-notch rear and worn brass blade front, a simple ramrod is present and the lock seems to function well mechanically.
