Here is a rifle that has been there and done that. It is a Remington Rolling Block with a heavy octagon barrel with a very good bore. It shoots fine. A few years back I drew a second deer tag and carried this rifle a few days, never getting a shot at a deer I wanted. It shoots accurately offhand and if you carry it long enough it will build up your muscles. Everything works and it shoots well. It's just not pretty. $50 shipping and insurance. No ffl needed as this is pre 1899.
