Description:
This is a very nice 1st Series Colt Woodsman "Target" Model .22LR pistol that has been used but well cared-for.  The 1st Series guns were made between 1927 to 1947 with approximately 112,000 manufactured.  They were offered as a Sport model with a 4.5" inch barrel and a Target model with a 6.5" inch barrel.  The Woodsman featured a factory gloss blue finish, adjustable target sights, a frame-mounted thumb safety/slide stop, hand checkered Walnut grips, and a 10-shot factory magazine with a heel-mounted release.  The Woodsman .22 semi-auto pistol proved to be an excellent handgun, earning a reputation as one of the finest rimfire pistol designs of all-time.  Today the Woodsman is sought after as both a investment and shooter by collectors all over the world.  This particular example was made in late 1927 or early 1928 and is in good condition overall with an excellent bore.  While this gun was made before the high-velocity .22 LR ammunition was common it has been converted with an original factory high-velocity mainspring and housing.  This 6.5" inch barrel Target model also has the sought-after factory adjustable front sight as well as the adjustable rear sight.  The original blue finish shows some light to average wear in places but still has a great look to it with an even original patina.  As mentioned earlier, the bore in this Woodsman is exceptional, with nice sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The original checkered Walnut grips are in excellent condition on this Woodsman.  They show light wear consistent with the rest of the gun and there are no cracks, chips, or repairs in either side.  Both the left and right grip match perfectly and they have a nice clean look to them without any dark soiling or oil spots.  The original and correct two-tone magazine is in great shape both in appearance and function, with lots of original finish left and stout spring pressure behind the follower.  The internals of this 1st Series gun are really clean and show no mechanical wear on them.  It appears this Colt has not been shot very much during it's life.  The slide works nice and smoothly on the frame but is still nice and tight to the frame rails with no slop.  All of the controls are in perfect working order, 100% like the day this pistol left Colt's factory.  If you have been looking for a nice early Woodsman that could be a good investment and shooter, this Colt would be an excellent choice.
