Serial number 14521, this is one of the first Colt 1849 Models produced. The lowest known being number 14465. This gun was manufactured while the earlier, 1848 Model, the "Baby Dragoon" was still in production. We know that because, the highest known "Baby" is number 15461, 940 numbers higher than this gun. So this is definely a very early transition piece, the lowest numbered 1849 model we have ever seen. It is in excellent, original condition and in excellent working condition, with about 90% original silver plate still remaining on the trigger guard and back strap. The grips also have about 90-95% factory varnish and show very little wear. All five locking/safety pins remain on the back of the cylinder. Apparently, it was at one time fitted for a shoulder stock, which was attached by three holes on the grip strap and the butt. We have never seen this before on a Pocket Model. Further research might be warranted. This gun came with several original accessories when we obtained it. There is a proper double sided Colt powder flask, an early brass bullet mold, a small box of .31 caliber paper cartridges, and a copper Eley cap box.
