The “1st French Colonial Empire” was made up of the overseas colonies and European territories that came under French rule from the 16th century onward through 1814, by which most of their empire had been lost. The “2nd Colonial Empire” began with the conquest of Algiers in 1830 and continued until later wars in Indochina (1954) and Algeria (1962) brought an end to the 2nd Empire. This is a large pistol with a massive .60 caliber bore. This handsome pistol would have been most at home in a saddle mounted pommel holster when not punching large holes in the enemy. This would have been the type of pistol an officer purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he were to come into contact with the enemy. It features a cast, silver plated initial placard on the top of the grip and a Greek style bust on the pommel cap. The overall condition is good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good shape, smooth and dark. The stock is lightly carved behind the breech. The lock is lightly hand engraved. The lock is engraved “BALOCHE”. Some letters appear to have faded, but “A PARIS” can still be read on the lock as well. This example would do just fine on display with a collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9-1/4 inches. Caliber: .60 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
