Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y., based on the Fordyce Beals patent of September 14, 1858. They are inaccurately referred to as the Model 1858 due to the patent markings on its New Model barrels, "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A./NEW MODEL."; although wide scale production did not start until 1861. This Model was one of the major handguns of the Civil War. The New Model Army was also the last of Remington's .44 caliber percussion revolvers and was favorited by famous showman William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Who claimed "it never failed me". This particular example fair condition overall with a nice patina. The lockup is loose, but the action does function. The hammer will cock back but there is no longer a felt half-cock. The original grips on this gun are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. If you have been looking for an affordable but attractive Civil War Remington 1858 for your collection this example would be a great choice.
