Description:
COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER Antique Model 1873 .44-40 WCF Revolver 1898 Holster

.44-40 WCF Colt with CASE and ACCESSORIES!

Here we present an antique Colt Frontier Six-Shooter Model 1873 Revolver in .44-40 WCF, manufactured in 1898 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt Frontier or Frontier Six-Shooter was Colt's 1873 type revolver chambered in .44-40 Winchester caliber instead of .45 Colt so that it was compatible with Winchester’s Model 1873 rifle ammunition. Production began in 1877. “Colt Frontier Six-Shooter” was roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel.

Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians.

The overall condition is fine. Nicely refinished in blue with a case colored frame. The action is strong and tight with all 4 clicks and solid lockup. The bore is gray with good rifling. The 2-piece ivory grips are in fantastic shape. All the numbers match. The red velvet lined case is in fine shape, as is the hand-tooled leather holster. Cartridges will not be included but illustrate the displayability of the case when full. A fantastic opportunity to own the classic, original Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six-Shooter!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 4-3/4 inches.

Caliber: .44-40 Winchester Center Fire
