"Very Scarce Whitney Phoenix Target .38 Centerfire caliber rifle. 30" Octagon barrel with excellent bore. Target sights including a tang peep sight. Barrel two-position rear sight is in rear of two sight dovetails about ½" apart. Barrel has approximately 70% blue and receiver is bright with smooth finish. Stock is very good with a repair to the left wrist near the tang. The forearm has a repair on the upper left next to the receiver and has shrunk away from the receiver. The octagon barrel is a heavy target style. Only about 2,000 Phoenix sporting and target rifle were made from 1867-1881.
