Description:
Winchester Model of 1873 Sporting Rifle Second Model .32/20wcf. The serial number of this example is 1862XX Placing date of manufacture in 1885. This could be a sleeper. Possibly one of the first 73's shipped in .32. The Madis book (pg #163) indicates Caliber markings appeared around 150000 serial number range when ".38 and .32 were made available", to avoid confusion with cartridges. The early 32's did not have the W.C.F. The top flat at the receiver is marked .32 only. This rifle has both verified proof marks on receiver ring and barrel indicating it was returned to the factory for "R&R" (return repair). The side flat is also marked with the caliber marking of .32WCF! Overall condition of this late second model is excellent. The Barrel and Magazine have retained 97+% of the original untouched factory finish. The bore is excellent and will rate a 9.5 on a 1 to 10 scale. The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling and no damage. The front sight is a "Rocky Mountain" with a bronze or copper blade. Mostly silvered out the Receiver has retained approx 30-40% brilliant case colors. Case Colors will also be seen on the hammer and levers protected areas. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. The Brass Follower is uncleaned with a very nice mustard/marbled patina. Incredible collectable! Please phone Tommy at (760)-912-3761 or E-Mail all questions and concerns. $35.00 shipping. Insurance will be additional.
