Antique French Dragoon Martial Flintlock Pistol by Jourjon, with Belt Hook, approx. .72 cal., 12-5/16” round-to-octagonal pinned barrel, 18-3/4" overall length; barrel with a small blade front (and no rear) sight, has a faint proof mark to left barrel flat, original ramrod has been replaced with a captive, stirrup-type iron ramrod at muzzle; flat iron lockplate is marked “(St. Etienne proofmark) / Jourjon” below the graceful flint cock and iron pan; brass furniture includes left sideplate with iron belt hook attached, trigger guard with fancy upper and lower tangs, large oval buttcap with extended side tangs, and a single fluted ferrule retaining the ramrod; varnished European walnut fullstock with raised aprons on either side of lock.
Condition is very good. Iron surfaces retain no original finish, but are overall gunmetal gray with some very mild surfacing etching and light patina; brass with moderate toning from age, impressions at left butt; lower trigger guard tang has been repaired in two places. Stock is sound and smooth with a secure repair at tip, pleasing grain and color, and an added coat of varnish. Action is strong and smooth.
