Description:
This 7X57 Mauser Custom (Small Ring 98 Kurz, SN 4008E) is a collabrative effort between Michael Dubber, Master Engraver, and American Custom Gunmakers Guild member Jim Botsford. The gun was completed in 1987 and was hunted during one successful Pronghorn trip to Wyoming with FEGA President and guide Giuseppi Forte (deceased). Mike Dubber executed the engraving in English Scrolls with 24K borders, and with a 24K Inlaid Gold Proghorn portrait on the trigger guard.
Stock: made and checkered by Jim Botsford in select Bastogne Walnut. The checkering is point-pattern wrap-around cut in 32 LPI. The design is classic with a blind magazine (no floorplate). The butt is capped with a Pachmayr Basketweave Rifle Pad and the stock is fitted with Uncle Mikes QD Swivels. The final finish is hand-rubbed oil. The grip cap is engraved to commemorate the makers and outlined with 24K band. The weight of the rifle unloaded is 7 pounds 6 ounces
Mechanical: The 22” Douglas air gauged barrel is glassed and is free floated. The scope is a Leopold Vari-X 3X9 mounted on Conetrol rings and bases. The action is a Custom 98 Mauser, with added safety and a Timney Trigger. Four boxes of 7X57 ammo are included with the sale.
Hand engraving is carried out in matching patterns on the receiver, grip cap, rings and bases, barrel and trigger guard. The bolt is engraved at the shoulder and finished with a checkered knob. There are 24K inlaid gold borders on the rear of the barrel and on the grip cap.
