Original Civil War Era Remington 1861 Navy Revolver
made c. 1862 Conversion to .38 centerfire in excellent condition.
Original finish, all matching including grips, not import marked, no rust or pitting on metal, great bore.
There are conversion numbers on the frame under the grips, bottom of the barrel and inside the grips.
U.S. Navy marked its revolvers with a small anchor on the top barrel near the frame ( same as Remington-Beals Navy).
1861 Remington Navy was lowest production gun as
total production of 1861 Navy was 7,000 vs 14,500 of Remington-Beals Navy or 28,000 Remington New model Navy .
In 1875 a small quantity of Model 1861 Navies were returned to Remington as part of the 1,000 conversion contract ( along with Remington-Beals and New model Navy) .
