RARE Mule Ear Percussion COMBINATION RIFLE/SHOTGUN
Scarce Early 1800s American Design
Here we present an antique Mule Ear percussion combination rifle/shotgun made circa the mid-1830s. This is a very interesting American design that originated in the 1820s and continued through the mid-1800s. This is a percussion rifle and shotgun combination that is fired by the two independent percussion hammers on the right side of the firearm. These were very popular in the northeast and upper New York. It was great for the field when hunting, offering the hunter an appropriate load for whatever game he might come across, whether feathered or furry, and a fast follow up shot never hurts.
This combination gun is relatively short and handy. The top bore is rifled and .41 caliber while the lower bore is smooth and .69 caliber. Rifle sights. One trigger works both hammers. German silver patchbox with brass trigger guard and butt plate.
The overall condition is very good. The bores are in great shape, the bottom smooth and the top well-rifled. The action is strong. The trigger return spring is a little weak but overcome with by simply helping the trigger forward.
