Made in 1948, this exceptional and rare 11-48F Sportsman is the first one made of this model bearing SN 3,800,001 and made for Remington-UMC President Marcellus Hartley Dodge. The gun is engraved in superb "F" Grade pattern by famous Remington Engraver Carl Ennis and signed by him on the left side of the receiver with his classic "E" initial. Very pretty and finely checkered American Walnut stocks as seen in the photos. There is a gold oval near the toe with the initials "MHD" and this gun was found in Northern NJ very near where Dodge lived.
The gun remains in extremely fine all original condition. There are a few minor marks in the wood and overall the stocks are excellent and sound and retain more than 97% of their original finish. The receiver retains more than 97% of its original blue as does the barrel and vent rib. The mechanics are crisp and the bore is brililant and shiny.
These high grade Remington's are really works of art and this gun needs to be seen to be appreciated. It is an incredibly important Reminton being the first 11-48 made and having been made for the company President. Truly an important and historic gun worthy of the finest Remington Collection.
