Here we present an antique Harpers Ferry US Model 1816 Musket, manufactured at the armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, circa 1817. This Model 1816 flintlock musket was converted to during the Civil War in a manner that was somewhat simple and crude, but certainly effective. The flashpan and frizzen were removed, a percussion drum and nipple installed, and a bent piece of iron or “hammer” was tightened up in the jaws of the existing cock where the flint would normally go. This last touch was almost certainly for lack of a purpose-built hammer with which to replace the cock. Similar conversions are known but survivors are rare. This is a very well-preserved example of a musket that was already 44 years old when the Civil War began, given new life in a conflict in which it was quite fortunate to survive itself! The South made do with what they had very well. The lock is marked “HARPER’S FERRY” and dated 1817 with a federal eagle over “US” in the center. The left side of the barrel bears inspector markings as does the left stock flat. The overall condition is very good or better. The bore is smooth and in great shape. The action remains functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 42 inches. Caliber: .69 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
