CIVIL WAR Antique AUGUSTIN Rifle-Musket INFANTRY
Circa 1861 European Import for the War!
Here we present an antique Augustin System Model 1842 Rifle-Musket from Austria. This .69 caliber musket originally would have had an Augustin firing mechanism which was converted easily to percussion for sale to both Union and Confederate troops during the American Civil War. Extraneous hardware was removed from the exterior of the lock, holes, filled and ground flush. Hammer replaced and a large mounded bolster added to the barrel. Original Austrian inspection and unit markings may be seen throughout. Nice folding rear sight.
The overall condition is very good. This musket has a fantastic plum patina. The bore is in great shape with sharp rifling and a layer of dust from a long retirement. The action remains superb.
