U.S. Model 1840 Musket by Pomeroy. With cone in barrel arsenal alteration to percussion. .69 Caliber 42” round barrel dated 1843 that was rifled and sighted at the time of alteration. The lock is marked “1841” over U.S. at the tail and “L. Pomeroy” under the winged eagle at the center. The original bright metal is overall excellent. Barrel is marked “U.S.” over “JH” over the circled P proof. Stock is excellent with sharp edges, two strong cartouches. There would never be the need to upgrade this exceptional model 1840 altered musket. This musket comes with an equally excellent U.S. Model 1835/40 Bayonet that fits perfectly.
