Description:
NOTCHED Harpers Ferry M1816 CIVIL WAR Musket

Civil War Update of the Venerable Model 1816!

Here we present an antique Harpers Ferry US Model 1816 Musket, manufactured at the armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, circa 1832. This Model 1816 flintlock musket was converted to percussion using the Belgian Style Alteration method, more commonly known as the “Cone Type” conversion, during the Civil War period. All external lock parts were removed with the screw hole plugged, the pan ground flush with lock plate (leaving the remnants intact) and the small existing cavity in the pan filled with brass to give it a level or squared off profile along the top. The vent hole of the barrel was plugged with a nipple screwed into the threaded receptacle at the top of the barrel, set off center towards the lock side. Then, adding the distinctive military hammer. Though this musket was nearly 30 years old when the war started, it would have remained a desirable and proven weapon throughout.

This one has two distinct notches carved into the bottom rear of the buttstock as seen in the photo. These are old and worn smooth. The top of the barrel is marked “21”. The barrel tang is dated “1832”. The lock is marked with a federal eagle over “US” in the middle, and “HARPERS FERRY 1831” at the tail. The left side of the barrel shows the “V” “P” eagle head inspection marks and the left stock flat is marked “AR” over “V” by the inspector Adam Rhulman. A very small Roman numeral “XII” is scratched into the trigger guard.

The overall condition is very good. The bore is smooth, dark and dusty. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic US musket with lots of history behind it!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 38-3/4 inches.

Caliber: .69

Overall condition as seen in photos.
