Description:
SOLD Very nice antique 1894 Winchester. Here is a well above average 1894 Winchester as you can see.. Has the standard 26” round barrel. In the very sought after 38-55 caliber. S/N 96048 and by Madis and the BATF was made in 1897... This gun still has some nice blue remaining as you can see. The sides of the receiver are thinning but still has some bright blue.. The barrel and mag tube have deep and bright blue were they protect each other.. Some scattered blue remains on the barrel in the protected area around the sights and where the barrel meets the receiver and along the forearm channel.. The lever swivel block retains most all the bright and deep blue and the lower tang has about 50% bright blue. The blue looks much more deep and more dense in a shaded area than in bright sun light, but I wanted you to see the true amount of blue this gun has remaining.... No pitting on the gun anywhere...The lever still shows most all the case colors on the inside of the trigger area and good traces on both sides in the protected areas and some even still visible on the side flats also.. Has traces of case colors even on the inside of the rear lever loop..... Has the early heart shaped or “widows peak” hammer knurling. Excellent markings.. The bore is very nice with minor roughness and sharp rifling all the way through.. No deep pits or craters and no rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent with both half cock and full cock notches hold firm and positive. It feeds , fires and ejects perfectly. Shoots great as you would expect with this caliber.. Original front and rear sights.. All the receiver screws look untouched with no turning evidence at all as the same with the forearm cap screws.. The upper and lower tang screws show signs of a little turning but nothing burred up at all and all are very serviceable.... The wood is very nice also.. The forearm fits tight, full and proud to the end cap and receiver all around. Never sanded on but looks like and old coat of varnish was added long ago.. NO splits or cracks and has that great Winchester color we love to see and no oil soaking. The butt stock fits tight, full and even with the receiver and upper tang. Fits slightly proud on the lower tang where protected a little more with the lever.. The butt plate fits tight with a little normal wear at the toe as is common.. Has one small tight grain split on the left side about an inch long coming off the receiver as you can see in the photo and one dent about an inch long right above that.. This one is not a crack but just a dent. NO other splits or cracks and shows the normal and honest compression dings.. Some varnish added as well but never sanded on or messed with and no repairs anywhere and has great color as well with no oil soaking or discoloring.. This is just a great looking ole 94 with a very nice bore and some nice blue and case colors remaining. A very clean and crisp gun that has not been messed with or tinkered with. Much better than the gray brown ones you normally see in the cheaper price range.. This one is still priced affordable and makes for a good investment from what I see at the bigger sale houses.
