Description:
A Civil War, pocket size, surgeon’s kit. This set of tools include 4 “Tiemann” stamped scalpels, 1 pair of scissors which fit in a folding compartment in the lid, a bone handled tenaculem, and a bone handled pair of what appear to be tweezers. Three of the scalpels have ebony wood handles, and one is all iron. The teneculum is stamped “H. Hernstein”. The walnut case is lined in red cotton velvet with brass hardware. The brass plaque in the lid remains blank. ”C. A. Hopper Belfast, N.Y ” is printed in ink, on the bottom of the case. Hopper was a prominent name in early Belfast history and most likely the original owner’s name.

Condition: Case lid has some finish loss, and all hardware is intact – Tools are all a dark aged patina with scattered rust areas – Lining is good with a couple of small tears
