The belt is black or very dark brown Russian leather. It is strengthened, with what appears to be a burlap type of material, inside the folded leather. Even though this buckle is an 1851 model, it was made during the Civil War, because the buckles made earlier had applied silver to the laurel wreath. As the demand, during the war increased, they simplified the process, and simply cast them in all brass, eliminating the applied silver. The buckle and keeper are stamped with matching numbers, “230 V”, and fit perfectly to each other. Overall Length: 39" Width of Belt: 1.6" Buckle: 3.28" x 2.04" Condition: Leather has some surface cracking and minor losses – Buckle has a very nice untouched age patina SOLD |
