Turn-Barrel, Folding-Trigger Hideout Pistols!
Here we present a Brace of Antique .45 Caliber Pistols by J. Hilliar, made circa 1840 in Birmingham, England. John Hilliar was a gun maker at 133 Suffolk St. These little pistols would have been perfect for carrying in a pocket for self-defense. It was the English version of Henry Deringer’s iconic pistol but with more features. The triggers fold up into the frame for ease of carry, deploying when the hammer is cocked. The barrels also turn off for loading, negating the need for a ramrod as well as creating a better gas seal with a ball that was truer to bore size.
The tops of the barrels are marked “J. HILLIAR BIRMM”. The brass frames are very nicely engraved, along with engraving throughout the rest of both guns. British proof marks are located on the bottom of the frames and barrels. The stocks are finely checkered walnut.
The overall condition is near fine. The bores are smooth and in very good condition. The actions are excellent.
