Description:
#3893 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB with standard length 24” barrel and standard trigger, with an excellent (9+) 44WCF bore and smooth action. This late 3rd variation (465XXX range-c,1894) rifle is a beautiful expert partial restoration/refinish of one of the most highly collected and famed Winchesters of the Wild West era. The Model 1873 had movies made about it; it was the most prolific of all the pre-1900 models, except the Model 1894 …..and also the ’73 was in production for almost 50 years! That said, this gun has the Winchester low buckhorn rear sight and pinched blade front, excellent markings, bore, tight smooth action, razor sharp edges and fine metal with no pitting, dents, or blemishes anywhere. It has been professionally refinished and retains 99.9% coverage of a soft luster blue with a 99% density. Unfortunately, the owner wanted the gun to be ALL blue and without any casehardened parts (ie, hammer, buttplate, nosecap, etc.) The wood was just cleaned, not sanded, but consequently it still has some staining as can be seen in the photos herewith. The stains could be boiled out if one preferred that ultra-clean look, but in MHO the staining adds some authentic looking age to the gun. While the non-original refinish work that was done probably cost the previous owner more than I’m selling this gun for now, it does lower the collector value and it must be sold for the excellent bore and overall condition as a shooter. At least VG+ as described $2595.
