Out of about 340,000 examples made, only about 620 had 6"barrels, in six shot (instead of 5), and the 2 line Hartford Address. Serial no. 204075. Manufactured in 1861. UNTOUCHED! The way we love them. Beautifully inscribed to Frederick Gaebel of the 7th NY Infantry. He enlisted as a Captain on 23 April 1861 and rose up to Lt. Colonel on 1 November 1862 . He fought with the unit in all battles till Fredericksburg where he was wounded on 13 December 1862. The 7th NY took quite a beating at Fredericksburg. After recovering he rejoined the Veteran Reserve Corps and stayed for the remainder of the war and in the US Army until his death on 12 December 1868. The revolver has no original blue, just a beautiful natural patina. About 90% of the original grip varnish remains. About 50% of silver plate remains on trigger guard and backstrap. Action is fine. About 50% of cylinder scene is visible. All numbers match except wedge which is from a different gun. Accompanying revolver is a great signed CDV of Gaebel. A great inscribed revolver to a gallant officer WIA in the great 7th NY. Please call 973-214-3407 with questions. SOLD Antique: Yes |
