Description:
Antique, spur-trigger, single-shot derringer in .44 Rimfire (.44 Henry). 4” barrel, rarer in original nickel finish with rare and original walnut grips (serial numbers match the grip frame (#3,XXX) showing the usual handling marks. Exterior is a nice fading nickel (approximately 40-50%) with the usual handling marks; sharp edges and crisp markings. Action is smooth and the mechanism is tight. Good rifling but bore has some rough spots/pitting. Operation: once the hammer is placed on “half-cock”, depressing the top button release allows the breechblock to swing open to the left for loading / unloading. The company, founded in 1863 in Naubuc, CT, by Henry and Lewis Hammond, manufactured approximately 7,400 specimens between 1866-68. Very good, unabused example - never "messed with".
