Description:
This is one of the rare Remington Military carbines made for the US Navy in the 1870's. It has a near excellent 3 grove bore showing a couple of small spots of minor oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this carbine has mostly turned to a blue-gray patina showing light dings, fine scratches and good remnants of blue. The action has mostly toned to plum-brown showing some light oxidation staining and pinprick pitting, and the screw heads with slot wear. The original Remington markings along the tang have been buffed away. The breech of the barrel has a strong crisp anchor stamp. The butt-plate shows a crack and corrosion at the heel. The original short fore-end has been replaced with a full length forend with a nose cap and extra barrel band, The forward band is not US military and the rear band has the proper "U". Use the ZOOM on the pictures to evaluate the wood and rear sight. The action functions properly. A good, slightly modified example with a very nice bore.
