This Underwood Carbine was mfg abt 8/43, serial no. 2849XXX. It has all of the correct* type parts
issued for the period. I use R. C. Larson's "M1 - Carbine 2nd Edition for my 1st source of
reference and Craig Riesch's US M1 Carbines, Wartime Production - 7th Edition & other pub-
lications. I welcome any and all information to assist me to accurately present
these fine collector pieces for us to all enjoy. It is, to me, becoming more difficult to obtain Carbines
as originally issued.
The stock is a T -3 w/"P-U" stamped in the sling well & w/the Cartouche of a boxed (Meas 1.00 inch wide by .59 inch high) "G.H.D./U.E.F (See pg 425 of RC Larson's Bk) High Wood. The condition is good to excellent w/a few very light handling marks and one mark of abt 3/8" on the Left Side just above the magazine well.
The matching(VG Condition)handguard is a T-1 w/2 -Hole w/a circled "PJ" on the underside
The gun bluing is a medium to dark gray parkerizing and consistant throughout.
It contains the following parts:
Rear Flip Sight w/"s' on the left side, Barrel - Underwood 8-43 w/Flaming Bomb, Front Sight T2 w/"EU",
Bolt -T2 Flat w/Extractor, Plunger w/"U", Trigger Hsg - T1 w/"U" , T2 - Trigger, T2 - Sear, T2 Hammer,
T2 - Safety, T2A - Mag Catch, Oper Slide T3 w/"ou" in well, Stock - T-3 w/GHD/UEF & "PU" in sling well,
Handguard - T1 w/"PJ" on the underside, Barrel Band T1A - UM* (One Weld Spot), Butt Plate - w/"u".
