Description:
This is an incredible example of Japanese main battle rifle of WWII - a Type 99 Arisaka. This one is a true "vet bring" and is "as issued", with all matching parts, including the dust cover, bolt, extractor, firing pin , safety and the bayonet lug. It has an untouched "mum" on the chamber - seen only on battle captured rifles, as all the rifles acquired after the Japanese surrender had their "mum" defaced. Vet's name appears to be written in white pain of the side of the buttstock - "PAGANO". The rifle retains almost all of its original blueing with about 98% of it remaining, with just a few handling marks and an occasional freckle here and there. The bore is very good. The wood is way above average with just a few dings and scratches - visible in the pictures. Sharp proofmark behind the pistol grip on the bottom of the buttstock. Original monopod and a full length cleaning rod are present as well. This particular gun was made in 1943 at the Toriimatsu Nagoya factory and is so marked on the left side of the receiver. It is the "4th series" gun, as specified by the symbol preceeding the serial number. All the screws are untouched and are still staked. A complete, unmolested examples like this one are very rarely encountered and would be difficult, if not impossible, to upgrade. The painted name on the stock can be researched further and significantly increases the historical value of this gun.
