Pistols like these were commonly used around the Mediterranean in the 18th and early 19th Centuries.   This would have been like those weapons carried by Tripolitan pirates when the young United States sent the Marines to take care of them. These are large pistols used for fighting but it was also a status symbol with its elaborate stock designs. The overall condition is fair. The action functions in both pistols. The bores are smooth and dark. Some of the wire inlays have come loose, and in other areas are missing. One of the pistols has a crack around the grip. “ATRRATFNFHFKFIR WARSATFNFHRF” is inscribed on both locks. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
