In 2016 I had a major operation that required about a year for full recovery. One of the things I did during this period to have something to do was have this rifle built. I contacted the CMP about the construction of a match rifle which they said they could do. The specifications included in the photos highlighted in yellow are what was built.
I had decided I wanted a rifle that not only shot well, but one that would look like a work of art. So I began by obtaining the national match sights that were no longer available from CMP. Next was a grooved band for the upper handguard. I purchased an extra fancy American walnut stock with matching handguards from Wenig’s of Lincoln, Missouri. I spent countless hours putting a hand rubbed Tung oil finish on the stock until it shown like glass.
I shot it one time and it had a minor glitch with the clip latch that I sent back to CMP and they fixed it. And then it went into the safe after receiving it back without me having shot it. Finally realized I would probably never fire it and that’s a shame, like having a prize race horse and only keeping it in the stables. So, here’s to someone that will use and appreciate it.
I haven’t photographed the guts of the rifle. If anyone has a real interest I can do that.
The CMP certificate of authenticity will be sent with the rifle.
