Offered for sale here is a rare, hand built, never fired, Freund Sharps 1874 rifle in .50-90 caliber built by Richard McKinney of Schuetzen Rifle Company in Loveland, CO. This rifle has a heavy 32 inch octagonal barrel in 50-90 (2-1/2) caliber. The rifle incorporates many of the historic Freund improvements of the famous frontier gunsmiths in the 1860's including the tilting/camming breech block,dual cartridge extractors, the famous Freund reshaped hammer and a slimmed down wrist area of the buttstock, lockwork area.
Richard McKinney is a master Rifle smith know for his deluxe high end rifles with no details spared. His Freund style receivers are machined from a single solid billet block. The vivid case colors, his deluxe wood work and high quality polishing and bluing turn his rifles into functional works of art. The usual wait for one of his fine rifles is generally two years or more.
This rifle features the Sharps Hartford collar, and the fore end is capped with a pewter tip. Custom engraving work on this rifle was performed by Master Engraver Marty Rabeno in the style of the a famous historic Freund rifle. The lockplate and both sides of the receiver are engraved. On the right side of the action is engraved "Freund' Colorado Armory USA, Durango Co." and in front of the hammer "American Frontier". On the left side is engraved "Freund Improved."
This Sharps is fitted with a Hoke Long range Vernier Tang sight and a Distant Thunder mid range front globe sight
This rifle is new and unfired and ships with a custom locakable rifle case with leather corner reinforcements.
PLEASE NOTE: McKinney advises that the Lever should NOT be lowered unless the hammer is on the HALF COCK position, otherwise it will damage the firing pin.The original Sharps shared this limitation. Offered at $7495 with promt shipping.
