Payment Types Accepted: USPS Money Order Preferred Description: The U.S. Rifle Model 1882, the Chaffee Reese, was one of the first bolt action rifles manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1884. Only a total of 753 were made for trials. The rifle has a seven round magazine that loads through the butt. A ratchet mechanism advances the cartridges with the action of the bolt. Unlike many examples, this rifle has its magazine assembly and it is in fine working order. The firearm is equipped with a cutoff to allow the arm to be used as a single shot while retaining a full magazine for emergencies. The majority of these rifles were heavily used in the west as they were trial rifles. This example is exceptional as shown by the many photographs. Of particular note is the special rear sight marked C-R, the pristine cartouche and the remaining finish on the rifle. The bolt is bright, the action case hardened in oil and the remainder of the arm rust blued. The only glitch is shown in the last photo. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .45-70 Government |
