Description:
Colt SAA Serial # 48286 ( Henry Nettleton Inspected, 1878 Vintage ). This gun has H.N. above the serial # on the frame with a faint H.N. under the serial # on the trigger guard. (Does not show well in the pics but is visable with the naked eye). No other serial numbers appear on the gun. Will letter as a Nettleton Inspected US Contract Gun. Sometime in it's life, it was sent back to Colt and totally refurbished including removasl of the US on the frame and restamped with the Rampamt Colt and the three patent dates on 2 lines. The one piece grip has a large 3 on the top of the left grip and a chip out of the lower right grip. All the above pictured. The barrel was replaced ( not numbered ) along with the cylinder which has several marks and a different last four digets of a serial # but not of this gun. The gun is in beautiful condition with a mint bore, great case colors and blue. Pretty neat piece. Contacted Colt and they will not or cannot verify that they did the re-work on the gun. I can understand this from a liability standpoint. Don't know when the work was done. The previous owner feels it was a long time ago. A wonderful piece of Colt History priced at 10 cents on the dollar for an Original Nettleton Inspected US Military SAA. No papers needed. Thanks for looking.
