Description:
GREAT COLT OFFERING! 1871-1872 OPEN TOP EARLIEST STYLE .44 RIM FIRE SINGLE ACTION, #2XX. This is truly an exceptional Colt for a number of reasons. First, it is in “Attic Condition”  that appears to have never been cleaned or steel-wooled etc. The steel parts retain an uncleaned gray/brown aged patina and all with sharp markings- correct barrel address, early style two line “COLTS PATENT” on the left side of the frame and a full naval roll marked cylinder scene. All matching numbers with correct 7 ½” barrel and ejector housing. It also has the rare navy size brass grip frame (two rarities)- most were steel and army size. The brass is an unpolished mustard color with small traces of silver plate in the most protected areas (tarnished dark) and intriguingly there are five or six very small “kill notches” on the right edge of the back strap! The one piece walnut grips fit perfectly and are excellent. Mechanically excellent with fine bore. Most of these have seen hard use and abuse and many/most have had their barrels cut at some time. This is a really great, early example!
