Remember the 1996 movie called “Ghost in the Darkness” about a lion hunter named Col. John Patterson portrayed by Val Kilmer, well this .303 caliber sporting rifle is nearly identical to the rifle used in the movie by Patterson. The only significant difference in this rifle compared to the movie rifle is that this rifle has a 28” barrel with a full-length solid rib and a higher capacity magazine…otherwise they look identical. Probably made around 1920 +/-. Mounted on the solid rib is the rear sight which has one standing and two folding blades AND a folding ladder sight in front of the folding sights. At the muzzle is a hooded front sight with a brass bead. All finishes appear to be original save for the repair that is located in the stock directly below the loading port. The rifling in the bore is strong and solid although the bore is dark..no visible pitting. Bear in mind this rifle is 100 years old and it shows that is has been handled off and on for that period of time. 90% metal finish and about the same on the wood. Regardless this is a very fine example of the one of the most used sporting rifles in Africa during rail laying and pioneering period of the early 20th century. $2,350.00 SN: 10569 SOLD |
