Description:

***   SOLD   ***   Handsome and rare. A Greener Royal Grade G60 with great 29-3/4” highly figured Damascus barrels, extensive game scene and scroll engraving, intricately carved highly figured buttstock and forearm, and a gold crown inlaid in the toplever. Cased in a Brady leather case with accessories. Serial number 47585 made in 1898.   ***   The frame exhibits great residual case coloring and arcaded fences. It also displays a number of game scene engravings. The right side features a dog with two flushing partridges. The left lock pictures a dog with waterfowl. The bottom of the frame depicts two rabbits; the trigger guard two pointing dogs. The safety plate displays a pheasant. And the rib has a crane at the breech end. The frame also has a cross bolt and double triggers. The gun weighs 7lb even.   ***   The 29-3/4” barrels are made of highly figured Damascus and are chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges. The barrels are black powder proofed but with their great condition and wall thickness can safely be shot with low pressure ammunition such as that available from RST or B&P. There are a few very minor pits in each tube but the bores are shiny with plenty of wall thickness. The barrels are topped by a solid concave game style rib. The rib is inscribed “W.W.Greener 68 Haymarket London St. Mary’s Square Birmingham England Winner of the London Gun Trials 1875 1877 1878 1879”.  Mr. Greener was known to be a great promoter and this inscription is certainly proof of that. The right barrel is bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.022 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. The left barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.033 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033.   ***   The pistol grip buttstock and splinter forearm are crafted from highly figured European walnut and have recently been professionally refinished. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” to a thin ebony buttplate by 1-1/2” by 2-1/8. Slightly cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   Royal Grade G60’s are pretty rare and this one is in very good condition. Very handsome gun that handles well. The engraving and wood carvings on the beautiful stock make this a “stunner”. ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing.  ***   Come and see this great double and other fine firearms at the MacNab and Heritage Guns booths at the Southern Side by Side Championship & Exhibition April 22nd – 25th, 2021 at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC. ^^^^^ Enter the MacNab / John Dickson & Son Scottish Round Action event at the shoot. Participants must shoot a Scottish-made Round Action in this competition.
