HANDSOME Mid-19th Century Defensive Guns
Here we present a matched pair of antique European Pistols, made circa the 1850s. Pistols such as these were very popular and often made and purchased in pairs. They could be easily stowed in a pocket or in the case of a woman, a fur muff or purse. They were of course made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside.
The frame of this pistol is nicely engraved. The barrel is marked “Crown over R”. The grip is hand-carved and checkered and features a small compartment in the pommel for stowing percussion caps. A very nice and quality concealed carry pistol from 19th Century Europe!
The overall condition is near fine. Case colors are still visible throughout. The markings are clear. The hammer from the pistol on the right in the lead photo has been repaired at some point and works flawlessly now. The engravings are very nicely performed and preserved. The grip is in great shape. The bore is smooth. The action is excellent.
